Return to Learn

Our project aims to offer carers the opportunity to return to learning. They will develop new skills and brush up on existing ones, with the goal of funding new employment opportunities that fit around their current caregiving responsibilities.

Many carers have had to leave their professional careers and feel they have no purpose in life as their caregiving commitments have taken over.

This has also led to a loss of social contact, opportunities to engage with colleagues, and the chance to fulfil personal career goals. Our project addresses these issues by providing a supportive environment for carers to reconnect with their professional aspirations and regain a sense of purpose.

Over 12 months, we plan to offer eight short taster courses, each lasting six weeks, with participants benefiting from 21 hours of activity per course (3.5 hours per week for 6 weeks).

We aim to have 8-9 carers in each course. Specific themes of the 8 courses will be determined through consultation with carers, early suggestions include upskilling around digital skills, baking, sewing, and candle and wax making. These areas allow carers to work around their current commitments.

The community of Crosland Moor will benefit, it suffers from high unemployment, low skill levels, and limited opportunities for flexible learning. Return to Learn will be essential in addressing these issues helping carers reintegrate into the workforce, regain social connections, and improve their overall quality of life.

Our project will make the following difference on participants and the community:

  • Increased confidence and self-worth
  • Improved physical and mental well-being.
  • Reconnected with social and professional networks
  • Strengthened community support networks
  • Higher skill levels within the community
